Cottage Charm, Vintage Dishes and Manners

Just a quick hello and a closer look in the kitchen today...

This week was a trying one in my blogging life.
I had a really nasty comment shared and after 8 years you would think I had gotten use to it.
But it hit me a little harder since I have been stressed about our potential move.
I know vintage/cottage style is not for everyone.
But good manners are.
Just because we share our hearts and spaces does not mean we want to be critiqued.
I would never speak to anyone that way, whether I "know" them or not.
I know my time online is my down time.
Time with friends.
I love to see others spaces and read about their lives.
I have been trying to get as much done as I can here organizing.
But I miss everyone if I am offline for awhile.
Do your own thing... don't be one of those who tries to have everything perfect.
I love a little different.  Yes, maybe I take it too far.
But at the time, it makes me happy.
I hope it makes you happy too.

  1. I think your home is lovely and interesting, and I mean "interesting" in a very kind and positive way. In blogland, your home and a few others stand out from the sea of neutrals and grays (which are also lovely) and I enjoy seeing photos of them. Also, my mother always taught me, "If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all." Did not everyone's mother/parent figure teach them this? Obviously, not. I'm sorry there are people that make rude comments. Each of us should be able to decorate our houses in the way that make them feel like home to us and share photos of our homes without rude comments.

  2. One of the beauties of the Internet is to have quick access to a wide variety of decorating styles. Now that we're building, I'm considering changing my decor'. It's helpful to peruse different decorative blogs to SEE what I like and might want to incorporate in our new home. Thanks for sharing your cottage style and lovely home with us.

  3. My heart ached for you when I read this post. Whether the 'slight or criticism' was intentional or not...the internet is the same as RL---if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. It's past manners--it's a reflection on the speaker's way of dealing with his/her life, and their life must be miserable.

Your blog, home, children, have all been a reflection of your sweet soul---and don't ever worry about someone else's 'reflection'. Keep Smiling, Sandi

  4. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. I am always intrigued as to how you display items together and have taken a few ideas and used in my own home. you can't please everyone so keep on decorating and arranging and sharing!

  5. One of the things I love.....and there are many to love.....about your blog is your refreshing style. I see a whole lot of "the same" in blog land and while I love the neutral/gray/white farm styles, there are so many that it makes me wonder if many bloggers have fallen into the awful life draining trap of "keeping up with the Joneses". When I see your pie safe and dishes and pretty feminine lace and all the things that make your blog different, it makes me happy. I just wanted you to know :) And if you move to Alabama, we live on Lake Martin and Alabama is a great place to live!

  6. There is no reason for a negative comment on any blog. We all enjoy different and many things. Some we want in our homes and others we like to enjoy from afar. I love your posts.

  7. Love your shelf !! I have to say I liked it MUCH better with the dresser? Hutch. That you had under the pictures!i think you should put it back! It looked great!!

  8. I love your decorating style! I also love looking at other's ideas in their homes. Variety is the spice of life. Keep up the good work!

  9. Unfortunately we all come into contact with miserable people from time to time - they're the ones with the problem - so just chuck it in the bucket and move on. Look how many lovely comments you get and your number of followers - something to be proud of. So, big smile and look forward to your move.

  10. Brooke, you have a LOVELY home & garden and I enjoy visiting it via blog -- so warm and welcoming! And if you move, I can't wait to see what all you do with your new abode. I love it that now days, anything goes. Magazines are filled with homes designed by "experts" showing most anything and everything to the point that I'm not sure if there any decorating rules anymore. Our homes reflect ourselves and I love to see places like yours that are surrounded with what you love. It is sad that some think that just because you can't see them, that they can say whatever they want. I've been at the receiving end of a few rants and it hurts -- I don't have broad shoulders and it's totally uncalled for. Life is too short to be attacking others -- love and kindness goes a long way. Keep sharing and nevermind the critics. ♥

  11. I love your home and can't believe anyone would be rude enough to say something insulting. Your home shines in this time of gray/white/neutral trends. Don't let anyone make you second guess yourself!

  12. I haven't been blogging myself for very long, but I have been following you for quite awhile. Since I began my own blogging journal, I have run into a rude person or two as well, and I think it is so unnecessary. People do not have to be so mean. I have always enjoyed your style and your home. We don't all have to decorate in the same manner. How boring that would be! Stay true to your own style and continue to enjoy your home no matter it may be.

Thanks so much for leaving a comment. I enjoy hearing from my readers!
